Will you love me, if I told you the truth?

Over the weekend Shekar and I were driving to one of our friend’s house. Songs from Aaiyutha Ezhuthu (Tamil version of Yuva) were playing over our sound system. Shekar doesn't understand Tamil, but he still listens to them. So most of the time I translate the songs for him. Not that he has ever asked, or cared or even remembers the meaning the next time we listen to the same song. I feel bad and that is why I translate the songs for him.

We were driving and having conversation that is when this song started playing

uNmai sonnaal naesippaaya
manjathin mael mannippaaya

Loosely translates to "If I tell you the truth, will you love me. Will you forgive me in bed?"

I just stop talking and uttered the above translation.

Shekar turns red; his eyes get big and they stare at me. All this while I'm shocked and surprised by his reaction. Then it hit me, he thought I was going to tell him some secret that I was hiding all this while. I told him with my most innocent smile "I was just translating the song".

He just burst out laughing when he heard that (he was relived...).

funny..poor shekar would have had a shock of his life...

coming to think of it..this is what really scares me (talking in general..not about you and shekar...) in case of an arranged marriage..the "hidden secrets" that you may unearth after marriage..agreed they are from one's past and should be forgiven...but still it is a big jolt to the relationship...
you(in general) would have kept no secrets from your partner...but then its all about trust and hope that your partner is also not hiding anything from you...

scary it is...

Well Parth!

This one I can imagine the Shekars reaction! Thats why I feel before marriage all the hidden skeletons should come out of the closet. But then, it boils down to how much you should reveal about your past!

How much is too much, for a guy or a girl to handle??

Its not that scary.

Arranged marriage or Love marriage or any other relationship is based on trust. Once the trust is gone, the whole relationship is gone. So echo ur thought it is all about trust.

It is funny when u read it, but imagine when ur significant other tells you will you forgive me in bed. Everyone will freak out. I can just imagine Sheker's plight. Poor guy.

I completely agree with you. If I was in Shekar's shoes I would have started yelling and screaming (short temper and all..) I wouldn't even have given him a chance to tell me that he was just translating a song. The other question, how much is too much? I guess it is up to each individual. We have to spend rest of our lives together; my take is nothing is too much.

If a gal told this to any guy, he'd have the shock of his life!!!

But your hubby? He must have tremendous self control! not to have driven into a tree or something

Poor Shekar.. Can imagine the the jolt he would have had got......

ha ha ha.... could not help laughing for sometime....

Good post....

Agree with Parth... feels scary.... i agree that everything is based on trust... but then as Rays of Sun put it, there is always a limit to what u can reveal abt urself to someone before that trust is built.....

I've stopped translating after this incident. And my tag duties will be fulfilled by COB today.

Shekar does have great self control. My reaction for something like this would be so different.

Sorry I misspelled your name once in comments as Sheila. My whole take is before one gets into anything serious he/she should come clean. If things don't work out, it is better to end it before it gets way out of hand.

Poor Shekar, but it is funny.

I think u got a little confused here. Even though I went to KV I learned how to speak Tamil and Mal(spoke only Mal at home). So I was the one who was doing the translation as Shekar he doesn't understand Tamil.
